QR Code Generator

Create a QR code in the browser and download a PNG. The text is not uploaded.

What is drawn

A QR code stores text or a URL in a square that a camera can read. This page draws it in the browser and can download a PNG. Nothing is uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Type the text or URL. Error correction starts at M. Cell size starts at 6. Margin starts at 2.
  2. Create QR code draws an SVG. The same drawing runs as you type.
  3. Show Example sets the text to https://example.com, error correction to M, cell size to 6 and margin to 2, then draws the code.
  4. Download PNG saves that code as qrcode.png. The button appears after a code is drawn.
  5. Clear All removes the text and the picture.

Size and error correction

Error correction is L, M, Q or H. A higher level survives more damage and fits less text. The version is chosen automatically. Text is stored as UTF-8 bytes.

Cell size is a whole number from 2 to 20. Margin is a whole number from 0 to 8, in cells. Empty text draws nothing. Text that does not fit in a QR code is an error.

Where people use it

  • A link for a slide or a printed card.
  • A short note that should scan as text.
  • A higher error-correction level when the code will be small.

Questions

Does the PNG match the picture?

Download PNG uses the same cell size, margin and error correction as the SVG on the page.

Why did a long paragraph fail?

A QR code has a maximum capacity. Shorten the text or lower the error correction.
