What this page does

A new repo needs ignore rules for each stack. This page searches or picks templates such as Node, Vue, Python and macOS, merges them into one .gitignore, then copies or downloads the file.

How to use it

  1. Search stacks filters the chips. The quick presets are Frontend, React project, Java project, Python project and Go project. Selected lists the chips that are on. Convert runs once. Show Example uses the Frontend preset: Node, Vue, Dotenv, VSCode and macOS.
  2. The count line is Merged 5 templates. The result has five blocks in this order: Node, Vue, macOS, VSCode, Dotenv. Node is node_modules/, npm-debug.log*, yarn-debug.log*, yarn-error.log*, .npm, dist/ and .cache/. Vue is .nuxt/, .output/ and .vite/. macOS is .DS_Store, .AppleDouble, .LSOverride and ._*. VSCode is .vscode/*, !.vscode/settings.json, !.vscode/tasks.json, !.vscode/launch.json and !.vscode/extensions.json. Dotenv is .env, .env.*, !.env.example and !.env.sample.
  3. Download .gitignore saves that text as .gitignore. Copy Result copies it. Clear All clears the search, turns every chip off and empties the result.

Rules and edges

Blocks follow category order: Frontend / Node, Java, Python, Go / Rust / PHP, OS / IDE, Config, Mobile, then Database. Click order does not change that. Convert with nothing selected stops with an error. Clicking a chip updates the result as you go. This page does not write Git commands.

Where people use it

  • Starting a Vue app on a Mac with VSCode.
  • Keeping .env.example while ignoring .env.
  • Downloading the merged file instead of pasting a long template.

Questions

Why is Vue before macOS even if I clicked macOS first?

Merge order follows the category list, not the click order.

Does this generate git init?

No. It only writes ignore rules.
